How to Save/Extract a Favicon from any Website

Favicons (shortened from favorite icons) are small, commonly 16x16 pixel icons that are shown on a particular website that you have visited. Most of the time it is the company or the website's logo that is made in to the icon, so you can easily associate the website just by looking at the image and not at the whole web URL. Some people want to save these favicons depending on their purpose, but you can't just right-click on it and then it will show "Save Image as..". I for one, save the icons (or just copy the icon's URL path) so that I can use them for some programs (particularly Groowe, a searchbar add-on for Mozilla Firefox).

So how do we save these icons? Read on after the jump!

There are two ways that I know of to extract the favicon from a website:

One is by just typing "/favicon.ico" after the website's address and pressing "Enter". The image will show up on the web page, by then you can just Right-Click the icon and click "Save image as..". Take note though that there are some websites where this method doesn't work.

Another way is by copying the desired web address and then going to the www.getfavicon.org website and paste the address on its get favicon bar and follow the instructions. That's it!

These are just a few ways of getting the icon but if I encounter another tip I would gladly add them to this archive.

Till the next tech tidBeATs!
